So the age old question? Well maybe not… Maybe the new age question… In this digital age, is the medium of choice for photographer’s film or digital?

I think that the unarguable answer to this question from a pure population, and pure statistical perspective is that we are in the digital age, and digital photography is the medium of choice. Its convenient, its fast, its cheap, its just better, right?

Use of White in Black and White Photography

I think that the use of black as a theme in black and white is something that is done a lot. The use of white on the other hand is something that does not present itself as an option as often. This is something that I recently raised in the Faceless submission that can be seen here. To Crop or not to Crop

Yesterday I took a photo that I am very happy with. It was a spur of the moment shot, shot from the hip and captured the image exactly as it was in my mind before firing the shutter. A girl was walking towards me in the street and at the time of the day the sun was casting a shadow that only illuminated the girls face, and with the right exposure setting and a little post production tweaking I was confident that the result would be spectacular.

Micro 4/3 for Street Photography

Some know and some dont, but the main camera that I used for my work on the street when I was shooting digital was an Olympus OMD E-M5 micro four thirds body, with both the 50mm and 35mm equivalent voightlander manual focus lenses. This is the only camera used on all the shots on this site so far, until I get the film processing up and running properly, as in the scanner to scan the negs.

Street Photography in Crowds

So last night in Melbourne it was the White Night Melbourne festival. I have never been to the city on New Years, but a lot of people were saying that the number of people in the city last night was on par with a New Years Eve night. In short, it was insane. You couldnt get into any of the venues, and walking the streets was a challenge due to the number of people wanted to go to different parts of the festival. For something that I didnt even know about until the day before, I was seriously amazed by the sheer number of people that turned out.
